Conditions Treated with Bioidentical HRT
Charles Moss, M.D. of Moss Center for Integrative Medicine, treats a number of conditions that are associated with hormonal imbalances. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy can help several conditions that are the result of hormonal decline.
Some of these conditions include:
Andropause, or the time in a man’s life when he experiences a dramatic testosterone decrease, can create symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, insomnia, muscle atrophy, and erectile dysfunction. Testosterone is closely related to sexual function, muscle growth, moods, and sleep cycles, and when it is balanced, associated symptoms disappear.
Perimenopause is the time before menopause when reproductive function reduces, and the ovaries produce less estrogen and progesterone. This period can last for 4-6 years, and a woman may experience irregular periods, low libido, mood swings, decreased skin elasticity, and fatigue.
Menopause follows Perimenopause and officially begins after a woman has not menstruated for twelve consecutive months. When menopause begins, the ovaries stop producing as much estrogen, and reproduction capability ends. Hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, osteoporosis, weight gain, and vaginal dryness may result from insufficient estrogen and progesterone.
Chronic Fatigue is characterized by a constant feeling of exertion, even after sleeping, and may include symptoms such as a chronic sore throat, poor concentration, joint pain, headaches, and muscle pain. Hormonal deficiencies may be the underlying cause of symptoms.
Adrenal Fatigue occurs when a person encounters too much stress for an extended period of time, which causes the adrenal glands to constantly release cortisol. Hair loss, fatigue, body aches, and feeling light headed are all symptoms of adrenal gland deficiencies, which can be helped by hormone supplementation.
Hypothyroid or Hyperthyroid
Hypothyroid or Hyperthyroid occurs when the thyroid hormone is not produced correctly. In hypothyroid, or when thyroid hormone is lacking, a person may experience heavy periods, hair loss, unexplained weight gain, dry skin, and muscle cramps. In hyperthyroid, a person may feel panicked, anxious, nervous, or irritable. They may also have spontaneous sweat, thinning of the skin, and thinning hair.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder that is caused by an overabundance of neurotransmitters that send pain signals to the body. The most common symptoms include body pain, aching muscles, sleep disorders, and mental fuzziness. It may also include irritable bowel syndrome, which is an alternating of constipation with diarrhea.
By individualizing treatment plans, Dr. Moss can greatly improve existing conditions. In Dr. Moss’s experience, when bioidentical hormones are effectively prescribed, they can protect against high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, high cholesterol, and osteoporosis. Bioidentical Hormone Therapy greatly enhances levels of health and wellness.
